Abraham 03:41
Abraham How ‘bout you put down that knife There’ll be no sacrificing your son You proved yourself Now God will provide And build you a kingdom of love Now offer up The ram caught in thorns And these hills will burst ripe With his love
2.
Howlin’ like a dog I’ve prayed for years that you’d hear my call With my tail hung low There’s nothing harder than to watch you go The mind is dangerous Full of Selfish thoughts ya don’t want no more Feeling low There’s nothing harder than to watch you go Tied all into knots Got endless paths with endless costs But all I know Is there’s nothing harder than to watch you go On a frost chilled lonely night With a cup of tea and a dream of hope To love and be loved Hosanna in the highest Just know That good friends aren’t hard to find When they’re sleeping on the floor Holy night at the right hand of God
3.
Lacrim Flood 02:38
Winter’s no fun My Love’s under the snow The gardens lost But I’d bleed to build a home All I want is grace again I found grace within your arms Sing to myself Be quiet now- please quiet down There’s truth Between the lies There’s truth In fear and wine Then there’s you And twilight’s ghost And then there’s you Somewhere I’m sure? Winter’s no fun My love’s under the snow Fools minds look backwards And curse the bitter cold All I want is faith my friend But I’m a pillar of salt Sing to myself Be quiet now- please quiet down There’s truth Between the lies There’s truth In fear and wine Then there’s you And twilight’s ghost And then there’s you Somewhere I’m sure? Once I laid in a sacred place Close by the banks of lacrim flood Lying there I felt everything Balancing on The edge of love
4.
Where to now? I’ve walked all the paths here The crows call out They know me now by name ‘Cause I lost my sense of self around here Where to now? I’m sick of this stale air I loved your house But the things that you keep there don’t change ‘Cause I lost my sense of self around here
5.
Take some time before you answer Don’t think out loud I want to know just why You have to go right now You told me you loved me dear We all sing songs now Some quiet some loud You sang softly here You barely opened your mouth That’s why you haunt me dear You say you need to move on now But you won’t just go Until you know that I Can make it on my own I’ll sing it softly dear If you have to go Then I’ll let you If you have to go Just know I love you

about

The title "Lacrim Flood" comes from the puritan poem "The Flesh and the Spirit" by Anne Bradstreet. The poem is a parable about two sisters who are arguing about the value of earthly pleasures versus those of spiritually and the promise of heaven. Within the songs on this record I attempt to reconcile the two points of view so that instead of being contrary, they intersect.

In 'The End of the Affair' by Graham Greene he writes, "The words of human love have been used by the saints to describe their vision of God; and so, I suppose, we might use the terms of prayer, meditation, contemplation to explain the intensity of the love we feel for a woman." It is with that kind of mentality that I wrote these songs.

I wanted to write songs where romantic love and spiritual love are indistinguishable from one another, and I feel they are at their most analogous in the wake of a breakup. It is easy to mythologize past love, and losing someone you love can feel a lot like losing your faith. The word lacrim is derived from the Latin word lacrima meaning tears, and it is only during times of great sadness, “close by the banks of lacrim flood” that the sister of flesh and the sister spirit convene.
